The Book Sacrifice Tag

I was tagged by Jesalin a long time ago! I decided to finally do this book tag! Long overdue! I had so much fun doing this book tag!!

1.) An Over-Hyped book: Let’s start this off with a Zombie Apocalypse! Let’s say you’re in a book store, just browsing, when BAM! ZOMBIE ATTACK. An announcement comes over the PA System saying that the military has discovered that the zombies’ only weakness is over-hyped books. What book that everyone else says is amazing but you really hated do you start chucking at the zombies knowing that it will count as an over-hyped book and successfully wipe them out?!

  • Well, this one is a hard choice, I couldn’t pick between Divergent or Twilight. But, there is one book that was overhyped when it got its movie adaptation and that is Beautiful Creatures. How I loathe that series, I couldn’t read the sequel and had to drop it all together.

2) A Sequel: Let’s say you’ve just left the salon with a SMASHING new haircut and BOOM: Torrential downpour. What sequel are you willing to use as an umbrella to protect yourself?

  • When I was younger, I loved Delirium by Lauren Oliver. I loved the first book and I immediately picked up the sequel. I hated it. It was terrible and not what I expected. After reading the sequel, I couldn’t complete the trilogy.

3.) A Classic: Let’s say you’re in a lecture and your English teacher is going on and on about how this classic changed the world, how it revolutionized literature and you get so sick of it that you chuck the classic right at his face because you know what? This classic is stupid and it’s worth detention just to show everyone how you feel! What classic did you chuck?

  • Brave New World. I’ve said it. When I first read this book for high school, I had a massive headache. The terminology was too much for me. When I had to read the book again for my college literature class, I lost it. Though the second time was a better experience, I still dislike this book with a burning passion.

4.) Your least favourite book of life!: Let’s say that you’re hanging out at the library when BAM global warming explodes and the world outside becomes a frozen wasteland. You’re trapped and your only chance for survival is to burn a book. What is the book you first run to, your least favourite book of all life, what book do you not fully regret lighting?

  • Love and Misadventure by Leav Lang is probably one of the worst books that I have read. Don’t recommend reading it at all. A huge waste of time.

Black Friday Book Haul!! ⁽⁽ପ( •ु﹃ •ु).⑅*♡

black friday book haul.jpg

I was waiting for my Book Outlet package to come in the mail and it finally came! Yay! On Black Friday, Book Outlet was having a massive sell on a lot of books and I just had to take advantage of the deals! I also bought one book at Barnes & Noble.

Barnes & Noble: At Barnes & Noble, I ended up buying Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson. I kept hearing such great reviews that I ended up buying the first book.

Book Outlet: I saw the other books from the Mistborn Series that were on sale on the Book Outlet website, and so now I have a trilogy waiting to be read! I also bought Landline by Rainbow Rowell since I really love her writing style and quirky characters. Lastly, I bought Stormdancer by Jay Kristoff. I loved the synopsis of the book, and I can’t wait to read it!

Lastly, I created a bookstagram account! My username is @thereadingbelle! ʸ(➜◡ु⚈᷉)♡⃛

Dashing Through The Snow Book Tag

The Dashing Through the Snow Book Tag was created by A Stranger’s Guide to Novels. I wasn’t tagged, but I couldn’t help myself!

1. Name a book you would like to see under your Christmas tree!

harry potter illustrated

I would love to see the Harry Potter And The Sorcerer’s Stone illustrated edition under my tree. It would be a great present because not only will I enjoy it, but I feel that by having it I will also expose my younger cousins to the magical world of Harry Potter!

2. A book you’ll be reading during the Christmas Season!

Depends on which book I am reading from my December TBR. Honestly, I might consider reading Ruin and Rising, but let’s just hope I can read any book!

3. Favourite Christmas Movie?

The Holiday! I had so much fun watching that movie and the soundtrack is perfect.

4. Do you like snow?

I live in Southern California and sadly, we don’t get snow in these parts! I’ve only seen the snow once in my life.

5. Name a character you would like to spend your Christmas day with!

ron christmas gif

Ron Weasley! He would take me to his family and I would enjoy the company of the Weasley family.

6. To give or to receive?

I like doing both! I love picking out gifts for the holidays, but at the same time I love getting presents.

7. What fictional place would you like to spend Christmas at?

naria landscape

I would love to spend my holidays in Narnia!

8. Fondest Christmas memory?

Getting my barbie karaoke machine and singing to my relatives! I was singing a lot of 90s pop music!

9. Can you say Christmas tree ten times FAST  in a row (pronouncing it correctly!)

I tried to do it, and I failed. Ahahaha. At least it was worth a shot.

The Reading Habits Book Tag

Do you have a certain place at home for reading?

I prefer reading on my bed. It’s the most comfiest place in my house.

Bookmark or random piece of paper?

When I feel lazy, it’s either an old receipt or a post it. Most of the time, I use my book depository bookmarks.

Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter/a certain amount of pages?

stops reading.gif

I can stop reading when the book gets boring or a bit ridiculous. Other than that, I try to read as much as I can before going to bed.

Do you eat or drink while reading?

Drinking. I can’t concentrate reading while eating. I tend to focus on the food more.

Multitasking: Music or TV while reading?

Instrumental music playing in the background. If I watch TV, I would most likely end up watching TV.

One book at a time or several at once?

When I was younger, I did read several books at the same time, but now that I am older, I tend to read one book at a time. If I read several books at once, I know I would focus my attention on the most interesting one.

Reading at home or everywhere?

I can read anywhere!! As long as I have a place to sit, I can concentrate on my reading.

Reading out loud or silently in your head?

Do you read ahead or even skip pages?

I don’t read ahead since it spoils the reading experience for me. I don’t skip pages as well, even if the book seems to drag.

bored reading expression

Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?

I try to keep my books in new condition.

Do you write in your books?

I used to write in my books and highlight the heck out of them, but now I use post its. I also keep a book journal to write down my reading experience.

The Nintendo Book Tag

Hello everyone! Today I will be doing the Nintendo Book Tag created by Novels and Nonsense on Youtube. I mostly play Nintendo games and this book tag looked like a lot of fun! Even though I wasn’t tagged, I still wanted to do it!!

les mis

I’ve always wanted to read this book! I like the movie, but I still have to read it! This book has been on my to be read list for ages! Maybe 2016 will be the year that I start it.

I enjoyed Siege and Storm so much in the Grisha series. Prince Nikolai Lantsov is my favorite fictional boyfriend. I was surprised that I liked him more than the Darkling and Mal! I really enjoyed the second book, it is amazing.

fahrenheit 451 cover

I felt this book was very believable and it was amazing. I cried when I read this book and I felt it was very well written.

divergent cover

I never liked Divergent. I see how much people loved it, but after reading it, I had to drop it. I didn’t like Tris at all, but Four was really likable. To this day, I still don’t understand the hype with the Divergent series.

16069030My favorite book as of right now is The Winner’s Curse. It was such a great book and I can’t wait for the last book in the series.

akira cover

I’ve watched Akira way back, but I never read the manga. The movie was amazing and I feel that the manga will be just as amazing.

51rsxhScWmL._SY344_BO1,204,203,200_I’ll go with America Singer. I found her to be very annoying in all of The Selection books. Her daughter is more tolerable than America Singer.

It’s an obvious answer, but I feel that the Harry Potter series is today’s classic.

wrinkle in time boxed set

I’ve read A Wrinkle In Time, but I have not completed the series. I really want to go back and read the other books because it was a good start to a series.

hunger games foil edition

I want to collect The Hunger Games foil editions! I don’t own the Hunger Games series on my bookshelf, but this edition will fit in nicely with all my other books!

lunar chronicles foreign editions

I already own The Lunar Chronicles, but look at this edition! I love the covers.

Even though I haven’t read the second book of the Raven Cycle, I felt that all the characters were unique. It’s a weird, but interesting story. I really liked Gansey.

I am really, really, really looking forward to the two new Fire Emblem games. I am beyond excited and I am so happy that I have preordered the games.

The How I Read Books Tag

Thank you  Deanna for tagging me! Go check out her blog 😀

How do you find out about new books to read?

Before I used to ask my friends at the school library for recommendations when I was younger. I find most of my books now on Tumblr since I follow many book accounts. Goodreads is the second place where I find my books. Then it would be BookTube, that’s where I know if a book is overhyped or not. Other than that, there are some bookstagrams as well.

How has your taste in books changed since you got older?

I believe it has somewhat changed. I read more classics when I was younger and I currently read a lot more young adult books. For example, I read only one classic this year and far more YA. Though some things have not change such as me not liking vampire books.

How often do you buy books?

To be honest, I am trying to stop buying as much books. I haven’t hauled as much books as I thought I would this year. I have bought one book for each month, except for this month, I ended up getting two.

How did you get into book reviewing?

My friends started a book club when I was younger and that’s how I started reviewing books years before I started a blog. Though that book club does not exist anymore, I wanted to continue reviewing books. I never really thought of reviewing books online until I discovered Goodreads. I really liked how other users would express their commentary on books. I didn’t think my writing was the best, but my sisters kept encouraged me to review books as a hobby. Then I started a blog and I find it really fun to review. I am glad that people get to see my reviews of the books that I have read even though it includes spoilers and I feel my writing has gotten better because of it.

How do you react when you don’t like the end of a book?

I usually sit on my bed and think about what I just read, I mostly feel stunned, and I look back at my notes. That’s what usually happens when a book starts off great and ends terribly for me. I don’t have any other reactions ha ha.

How often do you sneak peak at the ending to see if there is a happy ending?

I try not to peak at the book’s ending because I usually end up rating the book a bit lower than I was originally going to rate it. I ended up peaking at the end of the book twice this year.

Fall Cozy Book Tag

pablo (15)

I was tagged by Deanna @A Novel Glimpse to do the Fall Time Cozy Book Tag. The Fall Time Cosy Book Tag was created by Sam @Novels and Nonsense. I will include each synopsis of the books I have picked.

Crunching Leaves: The world is full of colour. Choose a book that has reds, oranges and yellows on the cover.

honolulualanbrennertThe story of a young immigrant bride in a ramshackle town that becomes a great modern city

“In Korea in those days, newborn girls were not deemed important enough to be graced with formal names, but were instead given nicknames, which often reflected the parents’ feelings on the birth of a daughter:  I knew a girl named Anger, and another called Pity.  As for me, my parents named me Regret.”

Honolulu is the rich, unforgettable story of a young “picture bride” who journeys to Hawai’i in 1914 in search of a better life. Instead of the affluent young husband and chance at an education that she has been promised, she is quickly married off to a poor, embittered laborer who takes his frustrations out on his new wife. Renaming herself Jin, she makes her own way in this strange land, finding both opportunity and prejudice. With the help of three of her fellow picture brides, Jin prospers along with her adopted city, now growing from a small territorial capital into the great multicultural city it is today.  But paradise has its dark side, whether it’s the daily struggle for survival in Honolulu’s tenements, or a crime that will become the most infamous in the islands’ history…

With its passionate knowledge of people and places in Hawai’i far off the tourist track, Honolulu is most of all the spellbinding tale of four women in a new world, united by dreams, disappointment, sacrifices, and friendship.

Cosy Sweater: It’s finally cold enough to don warm cosy clothing. What book gives you the warm fuzzies?

1885It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife.

So begins Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen’s witty comedy of manners–one of the most popular novels of all time–that features splendidly civilized sparring between the proud Mr. Darcy and the prejudiced Elizabeth Bennet as they play out their spirited courtship in a series of eighteenth-century drawing-room intrigues.

Fall Storm: The wind is howling and the rain is pounding. Choose your favourite book OR genre that you like to read on a stormy day.

AnnaFrenchKissSmallYA Contemporary or Historical Fiction

Anna is looking forward to her senior year in Atlanta, where she has a great job, a loyal best friend, and a crush on the verge of becoming more. Which is why she is less than thrilled about being shipped off to boarding school in Paris–until she meets Étienne St. Clair. Smart, charming, beautiful, Étienne has it all…including a serious girlfriend.

But in the City of Light, wishes have a way of coming true. Will a year of romantic near-misses end with their long-awaited French kiss?

Cool Crisp Air: What’s the coolest character you’d want to trade places with?

I would love to trade places with Hermione Granger!!! I would love to learn how to use magic and drink butterbeer!

Harry Potter thinks he is an ordinary boy. He lives with his Uncle Vernon, Aunt Petunia and cousin Dudley, who are mean to him and make him sleep in a cupboard under the stairs. (Dudley, however, has two bedrooms, one to sleep in and one for all his toys and games.) Then Harry starts receiving mysterious letters and his life is changed forever. He is whisked away by a beetle-eyed giant of a man and enrolled at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The reason: Harry Potter is a wizard! The first book in the “Harry Potter” series makes the perfect introduction to the world of Hogwarts.

Hot Apple Cider: What under hyped book do you want to see become the next biggest, hottest thing?

People should read The Winner’s Trilogy!!! I feel this series is really under hyped at the moment!

16069030Winning what you want may cost you everything you love…

As a general’s daughter in a vast empire that revels in war and enslaves those it conquers, seventeen-year-old Kestrel has two choices: she can join the military or get married. But Kestrel has other intentions.

One day, she is startled to find a kindred spirit in a young slave up for auction. Arin’s eyes seem to defy everything and everyone. Following her instinct, Kestrel buys him—with unexpected consequences. It’s not long before she has to hide her growing love for Arin.

But he, too, has a secret, and Kestrel quickly learns that the price she paid for a fellow human is much higher than she ever could have imagined.

Set in a richly imagined new world, The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski is a story of deadly games where everything is at stake, and the gamble is whether you will keep your head or lose your heart.

Coat, Scarves and Mittens: The weather has turned cold and it’s time to cover up. What’s the most embarrassing book cover you own that you like to keep hidden in public?

I rather read Twilight in public than this book.

22373734 This is a reverse harem romance, which involves multiple men falling in love with one heroine. So if you like a contemporary romance with seven bishonens (beautiful/hot male) heroes pursuing one pretty young woman with all the love, angst, and drama that you’d expected from this genre, then this is the book for you.

One young woman.
Seven brothers.
When she falls in love with two,
which brother will she choose?

In Japan, Sakura is the beautiful cherry blossom that blooms vibrantly in spring and symbolizes the insightful Buddhist phrase ono no aware, which means the pathos of things, a metaphor for the ephemeral nature of life. FALLING FOR SAKURA is the story of Caucasian-Japanese Sakura, her journey to finding herself, and her torn love for two very different brothers, Sebastian and Darcy Princeton.

Orphan Sakura, with no last name, is accustomed to being rejected, hated, bullied, and unloved. When she is adopted by the wealthy Princeton family, her seven brothers refuse to accept her, and her two sisters constantly bully her. Instead of admitting defeat, she gladly takes on her new life with a brave face, working hard to earn her new siblings’ trust and love. Her endeavor, however, ultimately leads to a series of unfortunate incidents.

Now years later, the twenty-three-year-old beauty dreads the moment she once again has to meet the drop-dead gorgeous brothers, due to arrive for their cousin’s wedding. Dodging their very presence is next to impossible since the brothers, who have forgotten who she is entirely, are attracted to her like moths to a flame and thwart her escapes at every turn. This, of course, leads to ungodly, tempting situations, awakens forbidden feelings, and ignites old flames that have been suppressed and laid dormant for many years. When she finds them competing for her—NOT for her sisterly affection, which she still deeply craves, but for her love as a woman—she is torn between Sebastian Princeton, the brother who loves her and watches over her from a distance, and Darcy Princeton, the brother who was once her best friend and now secretly yearns for her forgiveness and her love once again.

Pumpkin Spice: What’s your favourite fall time comfort food/foods?

I love, love, love eating pozole verde, pan dulce, and abuelita’s hot chocolate for the fall! I feel those are perfect foods for the fall.
