Bungo Stray Dogs Reading Challenge

Bungo Stray Dogs

Hey everyone, I wanted to create a reading challenge based on Bungo Stray Dogs. I finished watching season two today and I am so excited to see how this anime will continue once season 3 arrives. Because I felt inspired, I decided to do a reading challenge. I am not sure if anyone has made this challenge yet from what I’ve seen on the internet. Anyways, the characters of Bungo Stray Dogs are named after Japanese authors, and their powers are based off their literary works. The inner bookworm in me was excited!!  So, this will be my project that I’ll try to continuously update as more characters are introduced!! Anyone is free to join this reading challenge.

*For some of the characters, it was hard finding a particular book that relates to their power. I’ll try to associate books with each character.

**Some books are difficult for me to find online.

The Armed Detective Agency

  • Atsushi Nakajima: The Moon Over the Mountain, and Other Stories
  • Osamu Dazai: No Longer Human
  • Yukichi Fukuzawa: The Autobiography of Yukichi Fukuzawa

  • Motojiro Kajii: Lemon
  • Michizō Tachihara: **

Book Themed Wedding

I’ve mentioned on my blog that I married earlier this year. I wanted to share a few snapshots from my wedding. Though not all of them of course since those are dear to my heart. Ha ha. Prior to the wedding, I had several ideas for the theme. I was very indecisive when it came to it. Though I looked on Pinterest and wedding magazines, I was overwhelmed by all my choices! I changed my theme depending on season and color, but somehow I knew that those ideas I had were not for me. My sister-in-law became my wedding planner and coordinator, and she helped me decided on a book themed wedding. The answer was simple and right in front of me. A book themed wedding for a bookworm like me!

A book themed wedding was very simple and aesthetically pleasing. My favorite part during wedding planning was shopping for several thrift books to be centerpieces. Specifically hardcovers. I know that Etsy and Ebay sell books, but I found those books to be a tad for more expensive. I felt that books from thrift stores was far more inexpensive. As for my bouquet, my sister-in-law made it for me. I had a lot of tremendous help which I am thankful for to this day!

When it comes to locations and finding the dream place can often be quite pricey. Trust me, I’ve been to several wedding venues to find the place. I was more invested in finding the perfect venue for the reception rather than the church. My husband and I traveled a lot to find the venue. I felt we travelled all over Southern California. There were some places that did not seem costly, but in fact were tremendously expensive. We did settle for a banquet hall because it was more budget friendly than having it at a restaurant or a country club. As for banquet halls, we found our place in Panorama City, CA. I don’t want to stereotype, but I’ll stereotype: I am Mexican and I have a big family. I needed a place that was going to big enough for all my relatives, without it being too costly. Platinum Banquet Hall in was the most economically friendly for us. What sealed the deal was an all you can eat buffet for all the guests. My family and I love to eat, so a buffet had won our hearts! The Church was the easiest one to find! I fell in love with Congregational Church-UCC immediately. It was so beautiful on the inside. I loved how it had a vintage feel to it. Anyways, I am sure you want to see the pictures.

Locations:

  1. Congregational Church-UCC
    • 9659 Balboa Blvd, Northridge, CA 91325
  2. Platinum Banquet Hall
    • 8704 Van Nuys Blvd, Panorama City, CA 91402

Recap: Anime Expo 2016

So, earlier this month I went to Anime Expo. I’ve been planning it for almost a year, and I ended up getting the four day pass for my birthday. I wasn’t really on spending much, but I think I got some deals and I mostly went for the experience. My recommendation is to buy the four day pass only when it’s Black Friday since it is the best deal. Anyways, here are pics from my four days. 🙂

Meet Miles Jai

I knew he was going to Anime Expo, but I never imagined running into him on my last day too!!! Luckily, I took a picture!! 🙂

    Merchandise

As you can see, mostly Sailor Moon items. I’m a hardcore fan of Sailor Moon since I’ve been a little girl. The large poster came from the Moon Panel. The other small posters came from the Viz Booth. I got a couple fans, a One Piece print, a Dragonball Z print, Princess Shirahoshi notebook, a Hijikata keychain, and a Sailor Moon water bottle from a scavenger hunt.

Thoughts

I can’t wait for next year’s Anime Expo. I will buy my ticket ahead of time and I will most likely book a hotel reservation. Why? Well, I wanted to stay out longer, but I don’t want to drive tired. Also, having a hotel nearby means that I can drop off merchandise without having to carry it all day, and also rest without needing to worry about leaving early. Lastly, I will definitely invest in a portable charger since my phone kept dying. This year’s AX was great, and I hope next year’s will be even better.

sakamoto desu ga.gif

This week’s topic is Ten Facts About Me. This topic may be the easiest one this year! I’ll try to list facts that I don’t really reveal about myself…starting now!

  1. I am a slow reader – As I have gotten older, I read a lot slower. I like reading at my own pace.
  2.  I get distracted easily – I’m constantly on my phone. I’m even more distracted because of Pokemon Go.
  3. I like listening to Chillhop whenever I’m cleaning or reading. Chillhop Music on YouTube is one of my favorite channels.
  4. I have a disorganized bookshelf – I share my bookshelves with my sisters. I have several random items on my shelves. I need to clean it soon 🤔
  5. I prefer a good cup of tea over coffee, preferably peppermint.
  6. I am into Korean Skincare 💖
  7. I am into everything kawaii…though it is an expensive lifestyle.
  8. I dislike with a burning passion liver and onions.
  9. I prefer reading on an iPad than a Kindle.
  10. At the moment, I love reading about self improvement and happiness.

Monthly Favorites: May 2016

Hey, and good evening! I am so happy today because I finally have internet again! Woot woot! I’ve missed it so much. It really felt like I was living in the 2000s again. The month of May went by quicker than I had expected! I know this list might be a little late. So here are my favorites:

Books:

I didn’t buy books for May, but I did end up getting three free books. Now here’s the story: My fiance and I were driving around a neighborhood near Belmont Shore. He was driving back home, but accidentally turned onto a different route. In the corner of the street there was a wagon filled with books. Free books. That’s right.

There were several book! I was a bit overwhelmed, but there were three promising books that I took with me that day. The books I hauled where Night Film by Marisha Pessl, Sprig Muslin by Georgette Heyer, The Garden Of Good And Evil by John Berendt. I might try to go there this month for more free books.

Movie:

One of the movies that I was looking forward to seeing since Winter Solider, was Captain America: Civil War. The movie was terrific!!! What I really appreciate from the Captain America series is that with each movie, it gets better. (Unlike the Ironman movies). Now, the story was well done, and the action scenes were amazing!! I have to say that Black Panther and Spiderman really stole the show for me. Also, I liked the buildup to Scarlet Witch, and Vision’s relationship.

Television

I’ve watched much more anime than I had expected for this month. It’s been so long since I’ve kept up with the anime from this season. I haven’t started Boku Hero Academia or Joker Game. I hope I can start those two really soon.

Bungou Stray Dogs  is by far my favorite anime for this season. I like the pacing of the show. One bookish fact is that the characters are based off Japanese authors. One of my favorite guys happens to be Osamu Dazai, and I happen to have read No Longer Human. I might create a Bungou Stray Dogs reading challenge after I finish the show.

Haven’t You Heard? I’m Sakamoto is hilarious. I laugh at every episode. If you like watching Gintama, then I’d recommend this one!! It’s so much fun.

Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World took me a while to really get attached to it. The pacing is definitely slow, but it’s worth watching. The twins are my favorite from the bunch.

Personal

I’m the type of person to collect journals, but I never end up writing in them. That’s right…I’m a journal hoarder. I do have a journal for blogging which I regularly use, but not one for my personal life. I’ve challenged myself to write at least a couple sentences a day. I used to be really committed to journaling when I was ten years younger. It feels like it’s been forever since I started writing down my thoughts. I’ve been doing good so far, though I write slower than before. Ha ha.

Blog Update: 500 Followers?!

Hey, and good day! I don’t have internet at the moment, so it’s a bit hard to be online for now. Luckily, I shall have internet in my home soon. Now, I wanted to talk about something. Followers!

500 followers copy.jpg

I’ve been blogging for almost two years now, and I’m really happy. I did get a bit emotional because I really never expected my blog to grow tremendously. I’m thinking of doing a book giveaway real soon 🙂

Anyways, I’m hoping everyone is having a great day!!! Thank you!!!

Monthly Favorites: April 2016

Hey, and good evening! April was such a fast paced month for me. I don’t even know how I can summarize it.

Beauty

One of my new favorite brands is Milani when it comes to matte lipsticks. Since I am dark, most the lipsticks look great on my skin tone. My favorite lipstick at the moment is called Matte Beauty. It’s a brown color with a small hint of orange, that’s the best way to describe it. Other colors that I like from Milani are Matte Flirty, Matte Glam, and Matte Love.

I’ve always wanted to dye my hair a pastel color, but my work is not too keen on “radical colors” so I can’t dye my hair. But, I have a new found love for wigs. I only bought two at the moment. Both wigs are from eBay. I’m planning on buying one grey wig and a purple one as well.

Which one do you prefer? Pink or blue. Please comment below.

Bookstagram

Processed with VSCO with 4 preset

This is one of my favorite pictures of last month. The roses were blooming quite beautifully. I was reading The ‘Ohana Tree at the time, which I highly recommend.

Personal

The gym finally opened up near my house. I am trying to get fit for my wedding. It’s going to take a lot of work, but I’m having fun. I’m going to try to listen to audiobooks while I work out. Most of the time I’m listening to KPOP. I am so happy that I can be on the treadmill and read my kindle at the same time. Well, I shall see. Other than that, Yallwest was amazing! It was such a great way to end the month.

Recommendation

Strawberry acai with coconut milk, no water. Tastes just like the strawberry calpico drink.

Television

Rin-ne is hilarious and so much fun to watch. Rumiko Takahashi never fails to disappoint with her works. Other than that, I’m planning on watching more shows for this month and hopefully one Korean drama.

Monthly Favorites: March 2016

Hello, and good evening! I’ve been planning on posting this on April 1st, but I’ve been busy with work and trying to balance my social life. Ha ha. Anyways, March was a good month!

Bookstagram:

  • Trying to be more active on Bookstagram. I don’t post every day, and I should be motivated to be a bit more active! Anyways, here is my favorite picture from March (even though the book was not so great…)the new guy and other senior distractions .jpg

Movie:

  • Batman Vs Superman: I really had low expectations for this movie because I trust Rotten Tomatoes’ ratings. After watching it, I liked the movie. Sure it was boring at some parts, and then it tried to cram in a lot of things towards the end, but I liked it. Wonder Woman stole the show! That is a fact. I’m so stoked for the Wonder Woman movie!! I also liked Ben Affleck as Batman since he portrayed Bruce Wayne as a much older Batman who is not in his prime. Other than that, I didn’t like Lex at all and I felt he was too over the top!

Personal:

  • I’m engaged! I’ve been looking for wedding venues, and it’s probably one of the most frustrating things! Seriously! When you fall in love with a place, just make sure that you get quotes before deciding on that place! I might write about wedding advice and tips on having an affordable wedding in Southern California.

Televison:

  • Jessica Jones: It took forever to finish it since I was watching it with my boyfriend, normally I would have finished it within a week. The show was amazing and really dark. The casting was phenomenal and Kilgrave was probably one of my favorite. I loved David Tennet as The Doctor, and he was amazing as the villain. I really want a season 2.
  • Selector Infected/Spread Wixoss: I loved this anime so much! It was a mix of magical girl and Yugioh. It was dark, and the characters were great. I loved the opening songs for both seasons, and if I had to pick my favorite character it would be Chiyori. She was so cute and relatable. Though she has the least appearances. I would recommend this show for fans of Yuki Yuna Is A Hero and Magica Madoka.
  • Erased: I keep recommending Erased to pretty much everyone. It’s a good psychological anime, and it’s one of my favorites for the winter 2016 anime slot. I have a spoiler free review if you want to check it out!

Heart To Heart: Life Changes

Hey everyone! I usually don’t post my personal thoughts as much I would love to. I mostly blog about what books I’m reading, what anime I’m currently watching, and what foreign movie I’ve seen. Last time I wrote personal post was probably two years ago when I first started my blog.

Well, today I want to share my good news with you! I occasionally mention my boyfriend in some of my posts. I’ve been dating him for almost four years. I’m really happy with the way my relationship is going. I’ve experienced so much with him. I consider him to be my best friend. And I know it may sound cheesy, but I’m so comfortable to be myself whenever I’m with him!

I haven’t been focusing on my blog as much as I would like! I’ve been really busy and my life is going to change real soon. Why is that, you may be wondering. I’ll tell you: I’m engaged!!! See my generic ring picture below:

Ring Picture.jpg

My boyfriend proposed on Tuesday and I was not expecting it at all! It really took me by surprise. Honestly, we’ve discussed marriage and our future together, but I really thought he was going to proposed in the far future. Words cannot describe how incredibly happy I feel.

As of lately, I’ve been busy looking at Pinterest for wedding inspiration and a couple bridal magazines. I might not be as active because planning a wedding is tough. We already discussed when we want to get married and even started looking into venues. Let me tell you, having a wedding in Los Angeles is not cheap. I really can’t believe this is happening!!! Anyways, I hope everyone is having a great day!!

This song fits the mood, and it happens to be one of my favorites 💖:

Events I Will Be Attending This Year!

creamy mami gif.gif

Hello! I thought it would be interesting to write about the major events I will be attending this year!

The first event that is coming up soon is Yallwest! I went to Yallwest last year and I loved my experience! I met some of my favorite authors, and I can’t wait for this year. I ended up buying tickets to see Rainbow Rowell’s AM Keynote! I will bring a larger backpack for this year because last year I was mostly carrying my books!

Yallwest 2016 Santa Monica, April 30th and May 1st

The second event that I am looking forward to is Anime Expo! My mom bought my four day pass because it was my birthday present. I am really looking forward to this year! I did attend Anime Expo last year and it was my first time ever. Sadly, I only went for a day because I bought a one day pass. I’m hoping to buy more anime merchandise this time around. Possibly cosplay, and overall I just want to have fun!

Anime Expo 2016 Los Angeles, July 1st-July 4th

The last event I will be attending this year is Long Beach Comic Con! My boyfriend loves comic and it’s a great event to take picture with cosplayers and buy comic merchandise! Luckily, I don’t have to travel far because this event will be taking place at my home town! I will be on the look out for Captain America cosplayers!

Long Beach Comic Con, September 17th-September 18th

I am really looking forward to attending these events! So far, these are the ones I know that I will for sure attend!!
