Top 5 Books I Read In Fall!

Hello world! Today is the first day of Winter and my birthday!! Besides that, here is a list of the Top 5 books I read this fall!! I read so many books that it was hard to choose which ones I really liked. Anyways here is my list:

  1. 635616865883334429-Winter-3-10-15Winter by Marissa Meyer

Synopsis: Princess Winter is admired by the Lunar people for her grace and kindness, and despite the scars that mar her face, her beauty is said to be even more breathtaking than that of her stepmother, Queen Levana.

Winter despises her stepmother, and knows Levana won’t approve of her feelings for her childhood friend—the handsome palace guard, Jacin. But Winter isn’t as weak as Levana believes her to be and she’s been undermining her stepmother’s wishes for years. Together with the cyborg mechanic, Cinder, and her allies, Winter might even have the power to launch a revolution and win a war that’s been raging for far too long.

Can Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, and Winter defeat Levana and find their happily ever afters?

I thought it was amazing! I am satisfied with the ending of the series. I am going to preorder Stars Above soon.

2. Six-of-Crows Six Of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

Synopsis: Ketterdam: a bustling hub of international trade where anything can be had for the right price—and no one knows that better than criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker. Kaz is offered a chance at a deadly heist that could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams. But he can’t pull it off alone…

A convict with a thirst for revenge.

A sharpshooter who can’t walk away from a wager.

A runaway with a privileged past.

A spy known as the Wraith.

A Heartrender using her magic to survive the slums.

A thief with a gift for unlikely escapes.

Kaz’s crew are the only ones who might stand between the world and destruction—if they don’t kill each other first.

I can’t wait for the second book! I thought this book was amazing for being the first one in a series! I am really looking forward to the sequel.

3. The Winner’s Crime by Marie Rutkoskithe winner's crime

Synopsis: Book two of the dazzling Winner’s Trilogy is a fight to the death as Kestrel risks betrayal of country for love.

The engagement of Lady Kestrel to Valoria’s crown prince means one celebration after another. But to Kestrel it means living in a cage of her own making. As the wedding approaches, she aches to tell Arin the truth about her engagement… if she could only trust him. Yet can she even trust herself? For—unknown to Arin—Kestrel is becoming a skilled practitioner of deceit: an anonymous spy passing information to Herran, and close to uncovering a shocking secret.

As Arin enlists dangerous allies in the struggle to keep his country’s freedom, he can’t fight the suspicion that Kestrel knows more than she shows. In the end, it might not be a dagger in the dark that cuts him open, but the truth. And when that happens, Kestrel and Arin learn just how much their crimes will cost them.

I really liked this book. I love it so much and I did feel frustrated when I read this. The struggles of complicated relationship. That ending left me devastated. I can’t wait to preorder the final book. I hope to get the original cover for the third book and not the new cover.

4. Worlds Of Ink And Shadow by Lena Coakley

worlds of ink and shadow

Synopsis: Charlotte, Branwell, Emily, and Anne. The Brontë siblings have always been inseparable. After all, nothing can bond four siblings quite like life in an isolated parsonage out on the moors. Their vivid imaginations lend them escape from their strict upbringing, actually transporting them into their created worlds: the glittering Verdopolis and the romantic and melancholy Gondal. But at what price? As Branwell begins to slip into madness and the sisters feel their real lives slipping away, they must weigh the cost of their powerful imaginations, even as their characters—the brooding Rogue and dashing Duke of Zamorna—refuse to let them go.

Gorgeously written and based on the Brontës’ juvenilia, Worlds of Ink & Shadow brings to life one of history’s most celebrated literary families.

I really enjoyed reading this book! I thought it was quirky and I loved that it was based on the Bronte siblings. It was fun and imaginative!

5. An Ember In The Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

an ember in the ashes

Synopsis: Laia is a slave.

Elias is a soldier.

Neither is free.

Under the Martial Empire, defiance is met with death. Those who do not vow their blood and bodies to the Emperor risk the execution of their loved ones and the destruction of all they hold dear.

It is in this brutal world, inspired by ancient Rome, that Laia lives with her grandparents and older brother. The family ekes out an existence in the Empire’s impoverished backstreets. They do not challenge the Empire. They’ve seen what happens to those who do.

But when Laia’s brother is arrested for treason, Laia is forced to make a decision. In exchange for help from rebels who promise to rescue her brother, she will risk her life to spy for them from within the Empire’s greatest military academy.

There, Laia meets Elias, the school’s finest soldier—and secretly, its most unwilling. Elias wants only to be free of the tyranny he’s being trained to enforce. He and Laia will soon realize that their destinies are intertwined—and that their choices will change the fate of the Empire itself.

One of the most overhyped books this year. I liked it, but I didn’t love it as much as I thought I would. The characters are interesting, but I do want to continue reading this series. I really like the characters, and I kinda ship everyone.

Winter by Marissa Meyer: Book Review

“She’s our lost princess. And she’s coming home.”

☆.。.:*・°☆.。.:*・°☆.。.:*・°☆.。.:*・°☆ Goodreads Synopsis: Princess Winter is admired by the Lunar people for her grace and kindness, and despite the scars that mar her face, her beauty is said to be even more breathtaking than that of her stepmother, Queen Levana.

Can Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, and Winter defeat Levana and find their happily ever afters?

Commentary: I have been looking forward to reading Winter ever since I finished Cress last year. Winter has been on my tbr list for a very long time. When I got the book, I immediately wanted it read it, but I had other books I had to read first. It has been the longest book that I have read for this year!!! ⤴︎ ε=ε=(ง ˃̶͈̀ᗨ˂̶͈́)۶ ⤴︎

I really found the last book to be really amazing. The series got better with each book. I liked Cinder, Scarlet was better, Cress was amazing, and Winter was epic. I really can’t believe that the adventure is finally over. (⁎⁍̴̀﹃ ⁍̴́⁎)♡

As I mentioned, this book is massive and there are so many things that were happening in this book. Honestly, I felt that this book should have been a bit longer just because I felt some of the characters did not have enough screen time. For example, I felt that Winter did not have enough time as the other characters. She is one of the most complex heroines. She refuses to use her lunar gift, but she is mentally ill because of it. I really liked how Marissa Meyer handled her character. Winter was really precious. I loved her friendship with Scarlet, since at first Scarlet didn’t trust her, but eventually their friendship grows.

“Winter tilted her head in Scarlet’s direction. A spiral of black hair fell across her cheek, obstructing her scars. “What did you bring me today?” Scarlet asked. “Delusional mutterings with a side of crazy? Or is this one of your good days?”

What I loved was how all the characters are based on fairy tales. I liked how Meyer gave the Snow White story a twist. Though I wish Winter and Jacin had more of a backstory. Secondly, this book had many comedic moments! ╰(✧∇✧╰)

Thorne scoffed. “Careful is my middle name. Right after Suave and Daring.”
“Do you even know what you’re saying half the time?” asked Cinder.

Oh how I am going to miss Thorne so much.

“Thorne’s voice pitched high in imitation of the queen. “The impostor of my beloved niece is vanquished … Let us put this messiness behind us while we go forward with the coronations … I am a psychotic, power-hungry nut basket and my breath smells really bad under this veil.”

It was a good balance with the drama that was happening. I did like the bromance between Kai and Thorne.

Other than that, Levana is still evil and just as crazy. There were moments where I was feeling pity towards her, but Levana is not redeemable at all. I won’t spoil anything because you have to read this book. It’s dramatic and action packed, and it made me teary eye by the end of the book. I will really miss these characters. I will miss their adventures. I will truly miss The Lunar Chronicles. At least Stars Above is coming out next year! Can’t wait for the epilogue! ໒( ♥ ◡ ♥ )७

My favorite pairings:

  1. Cinder and Kai – Loved this couple from the beginning of the series. Of course, they would be my top pairing. Kai and Cinder sacrifice so much for each other, and I was glad that they have a happily ever after.
  2. Cress and Thorne – I would have loved it even more if they had more moments together. They have the funniest moments, and they are one of the cutest pairings.
  3. Scarlet and Wolf – I love this couple, they have many great moments in the last book. They have been through so much in this book.
  4. Winter and Jacin – They have loved each other since they were young and they are childhood friends. I would have wished for more moments between Jacin and Winter. I felt they were a bit under developed compared to the other pairings, but they did have their cute moments.

Quotes:

“A kiss from the Captain would probably melt my central processor.”
Thorne winked at her. “Oh trust me. It would.”

“Help me. Fight for me. And I will be the first ruler in the history of Luna who will also fight for you.”

“I can’t believe this is happening. I can’t fight like this, or start a revolution, or be a queen. I can’t do anything like this. I’m broken. I’m literally broken.” Iko settled a hand on Cinder’s shoulder. “Yeah, but broken isn’t the same as unfixable.”

Final Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ☆.。.:*・°☆.。.:*・°☆.。.:*・°☆.。.:*・°☆
